IMS Policy

Objective of Torrent Gas:

To provide safe, reliable and uninterrupted supply of gas to all its customers; and to continuously augment to meet the stakeholders requirements.

Torrent Gas endeavors to achieve a position where all its operations are viewed with trust by all stakeholders. We strive to develop this trust by imbibing and maintaining International Standards for Quality, Environment, Occupational Health and Safety Management.

Natural Gas Leak

  • How to Recognize a Natural Gas Leak
    • Smell
      • Distinctive, strong odour often compared to rotten eggs or sulphur.
    • Listen
      • Whistling, hissing or roaring sound.
    • Look
      • Persistent bubbling in still water.
      • Discoloured or dead vegetation around the pipeline area.
      • Slight mist of ice.
      • A sudden and unexplained increase in gas consumption.
      • Damaged gas pipe, loose connections
      • Natural Gas being lighter than air always tends to accumulate in corner or loft, look for any such possibilities

  • What to do if you find leakage
    • Open all doors and Windows.
    • Turn off the gas tap
    • Turn off the Meter control valve.
    • Turn off the riser isolation valve.
    • Do not switch on or off any electrical switch.
    • Extinguish all naked flames .

Do's & Don'ts

  • Do's
    • Before you turn on your gas stove, make it a habit to open all doors and windows for proper ventilation. Since gas is lighter than air, it would disperse immediately in case of any leakage.
    • In case you smell any leakage, close the main control valve and inform Torrent Gas immediately.
    • As an additional precaution, close riser isolation valve located outside at the ground floor of your society / tenement. Make yourself aware of the locations of isolation valves.
    • Always switch off/close the Appliance Valve after you finish cooking or at least before you go to bed at night. It is advisable to switch off appliance valve when away from home for longer duration.
    • For any changes in your gas pipeline, always ensure an authorized person makes the changes.
    • Never use non-standard / unauthorized tubes; always insist on rubber tube supplied / approved by the gas company.
    • Always ensure that your rubber hose is properly fitted.
    • If the leakage is observed in the yellow PE (Poly-ethylene) line, inform Torrent Gas immediately and do not allow any vehicles near the leakage point.
    • Inform Torrent Gas for any digging / construction work on a gas line by you or third party near or around your house. Follow Warning Mat instruction if it is observed during digging.
    • For commercial and industrial customers, it is important that in case of any gas leakage, close main inlet isolation valve and inform customer care or the given emergency number immediately.

  • Don’ts
    • In case you smell gas leakage, do not operate any electrical switches and appliances and do not smoke or ignite candles, lamps etc.
    • Stop cooking immediately if you smell gas leakage.
    • Do not allow any flame, spark or smoking near the leakage point.
    • Do not carry-out or allow any digging and alteration/construction and never tamper with any fittings of gas connection on gas line. If required inform Torrent Gas about it.

CNG Safety

    • Use only approved brands of seamless CNG cylinders certified by Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation (PESO)- Nagpur and the mounting of the CNG on -board cylinders should confirm to AIS :028
    • Never install CNG kit/ cylinder in the vehicle from any un-authorized conversion workshop/ outlet.
    • Never use any LPG, Oxygen, Nitrogen, Acetylene or any other cylinders for CNG use
    • Never install a cylinder which has been fabricated or repaired with welding or threads
    • Cooperate with the CNG Station refueling staff for inspection of the vehicle cylinder at the time of refueling for your own as well as public safety.
    • Get CNG cylinder test certificate from the CNG licensee/Retrofitter after conversion of vehicle to CNG.
    • Do not smoke during refueling in the vehicle.
    • Follow all other safety instructions of TGL while refuelling the vehicle.
    • Ensure that the CNG cylinder installed in the vehicle is tested as per PESO guidelines periodically within 03 years.
    • Ensure cylinder testing is carried out by authorised agencies only.

Dial Before Dig

  • Before digging make sure that there are no gas pipelines underground in area where you plan to dig. Do not attempt any unauthorised digging.
  • Call Torrent Gas team for any guidance about pipeline in your area where you want to dig.
  • In case if you find any digging in and around your area, please inform Torrent Gas toll free number.
  • Road marker and pole markers are installed at suitable locations to indicate availability of pipeline in nearby area.
  • Make sure there is no manual excavation or excavation by equipment around pipeline.
  • Do not burn any garbage or fire around pipeline. In such case, please Inform Torrent Gas toll free number immediately.
